Why do we like ancient coins? Well, they put us in touch with people who shaped our world: Aristotle, Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar, Pontius Pilate. . . the list is endless. The birth and growing pains of democracy, the English language, our concepts of mathematics, philosophy, science, and religious faith.
At our July meeting we viewed slides of "Biblical" coins that circulated when the Bible was still being written. In August, the month named after Rome's second Caesar, we will have a slide show of coins of the Ptolemies, who gave the world Cleopatra and the first Greek translation of the Old Testament. Whether you collect ancient coins or are just interested in listening in on the discussion, we invite you to pull up a chair at our next meeting.
The OCACC meets on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 6:00pm. Meetings are held at 17321 Eastman Street in Irvine. Directions to the meeting place are: 405 freeway to the 55 freeway North, exit at MacArthur. East to Redhill, then north to Reynolds, which ends at Eastman.
